Trying to find the best food to eat before your workout?
I know it can be confusing to try and figure out whats best to eat before a hardcore workout but I will break it down nice and simple for you! No matter what time of the day you train, you need to know the importance of a good breakfast! I can’t stress this enough! I know a lot of people who don’t like eating first thing in the morning and that’s ok because I still have options for you!
Why is Breakfast so important?
This is how you start your day so it’s important you start it off right and set yourself up for success. Eating something high in sugar or empty calories can lead to a crash before noon! I always recommend eating a well balanced breakfast. Get your protein, small amount complex carbs and a healthy fat to fuel your day. You will have more energy and less cravings. If you don’t like eating first thing in the morning you can fast until afternoon time. Before I was pregnant that’s exactly what I did.
Best Foods to Fuel Your Workouts….
Proteins
- Eggs
- Chicken
- Turkey
- Fish
- Beef
- Bison
Complex carbs
- Sweet potato
- Potato (small amount)
- Oats
- Brown Rice
- Protein Pancake (oats, greek yogurt, protein powder)
Fats
- Fish
- Avocado
- Oils
- Nuts
- Butters
If you get light headed during a workout…
Fruit is an easy food to go to for that. I use to carry a banana around on my leg days because I’d feel like I was going to pass out! The quick sugar and carbs would bring my blood levels back up and I’d be able to finish my workout.
Supplement Wise…
I’m not huge on supplements. But I do believe a few for training.
Before a workout…
- Pre-workout or a Fat- burner is fine for energy. I use coffee or green tea for energy instead of supplements.
During a workout…
- BCAA’s- These are great for endurance and building lean muscle mass.
After a Workout…
- Glutamine- This is great to help repair and build muscle
- Protein Shakes- Great to hold you over until you get home to eat.
