If you have followed me for a while, you know I am not huge on dieting.
Yes, you need to clean up your eating habits in order to drop weight but you shouldn’t be on something super restrictive.
So, if I had to choose a diet, it would definitely be carb cycling mixed with fasting. I love this because you have your low carb and high carb days. Alternating this allows your body to deplete itself of carbs then you get your high carb day to fill up your tank again. I feel this works great for myself and my clients because most people can do a day or 2 of low carb then refuel with more carbs so they don’t feel deprived. Make sense?
Fasting has always been natural to me. I have never been huge on eating right when I wake up. I like to workout, do errands then eat in the afternoon. I know a lot of people like this. Are you one of them? Do you have to force yourself to eat breakfast? So many people beat themselves up over not eating first thing in the morning but it is actually good for you. It allows your body to detox and heal.
Yes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day because breaking your fast (breakfast) affects your mood, energy and health for the day. Filling up on sugary, processed carbs are not the greatest choice and will most likely leave you feeling bloated, sluggish and have you cravings more junk food. The best way to break your fast is by eating a protein and a fat, not introducing carbs until meal 2.
You can ease into carb cycling and fasting by setting your days up like this…
Low carb, low carb, high carb, low carb, low carb, high carb and repeat. Don’t start eating until around 10am and stop by 7pm. If those are your eating windows already then switch it up to breakfast at 11am and stop eating by 7pm. As you advance, you can shorten your eating window and play around with it. I like to ease people into the process so they aren’t starving and end up binge eating because that can happen so choose what windows work best for your lifestyle.
That is how you pick what diet is best for you. Diet just means eating habits and habits are your daily routine. Follow a routine that you can truly stick to long term so you aren’t stuck constantly starting over.
For 6 years, I tried insane diets and it left me feeling deprived so when that happen… I would fall off, binge and it left me feeling discouraged, depressed and 30lbs overweight, thinking nothing would work for me. Has that ever happen to you?
I finally realized, I never tried just having a balance diet. I lost the weight and kept it off. I don’t count anything or obsess over food anymore. I was able to figure out what worked for me with the right mindset and food journaling. Even after giving birth! I dropped 54lbs and have been able to maintain my weight. It’s made me a happier, healthier and more confident person which let’s be honest… you need all of that while raising a toddler! haha
You can do it too but you need to have these 3 things…
- Patience
- Right Mindset
- Food Journal
